The Interstellar

|| Plum, almond & grapefruit Daisy ||

Do you remember The Intergalactic? That remains one of my favourites of all time, but it is not equally accessible to everyone. So that’s what we’re doing here, making the same profile, minus the cardamom-lemongrass bitters more accessible. And boy did it succeed. There’s really nothing else to the story this time!

  • 20 ml Gin
  • 20 ml Plum Liqueur
  • 10 ml Orgeat
  • 40 ml fresh Grapefruit juice
  • (optional) eggwhite

Simply shake & strain this cocktail, garnish with a grapefruit twist and done! You can make it silky by the addition of an eggwhite (in that case, first dry shake it without ice) or a vegan alternative.

The plum liqueur is the same as I use in The Intergalactic. The shop I get it from calls it “Old Mirabelle”, and it’s definitely a liqueur, meaning it’s sweet, but it’s also 40% ABV.

It’s a really nice flavour combination, a little on the sweet side but nicely balanced by the grapefruit juice. Little fruity, little sour, tiny bitter. I classify this as a sour, because there’s quite a large amount of grapefruit juice. In terms of acidity, it’s comparable to about 15 ml of lemon juice.

As for the name, it stand to reason that the less intense version of The Intergalactic is called The Interstellar, no?
